Early Help

What is Early Help?

At Sedgley Park Primary School, we understand that from time to time family life can have its complications and sometimes families may need some extra help. To support and advise you at such times Bury have an Early Help Team. Every Bury school has a named Early Help Social Worker. The Early Help Social Worker for Sedgley Park Primary School is Isaac Adams.

We believe that by working together we can better support children and families. Sometimes families need support from a wide range of agencies or people, for example, family support workers, social workers, health services and local police.

Bury's Early Help services aim to both provide advice and/or intervene  where there is evidence of emerging needs with the objective of preventing escalation to higher level services.

The aim of Early Help is that children and young people and their families will receive the right help, at the right time, with the right person.

What sort of concerns might parents share with us?

A wide range of issues such as behaviour management, toileting, establishing routines, domestic abuse, mental health issues, mobility issues, bereavement and loss - in fact any concerns which you are worried might be having a negative impact on your children.

How will we know when Early Help is needed?

Parents, carers and children may recognise that support is required, or school may identify that there are emerging needs and that support from external services might be required, as there are concerns about a child.

How will families be supported through the Bury Early Help Offer?

Children and families will be supported and reviewed through 'The Story So Far' document. 'The Story So Far' is a document voluntarily completed by the family with the support of a practitioner. It enables the family to set out the need along with their strengths, and provides information from all services involved, resulting in a coordinated early help plan for the family. There will be a named key worker who is best placed to work with the family.
