Spanish
Our chosen modern foreign language to be taught in school is Spanish. In Key Stage 2, all pupils are involved in Spanish lessons for an hour a week. At Sedgley Park Primary School we follow and use the Language Angels scheme of work and resources. This provides our pupils with a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious curriculum that inspires and excites our pupils through a wide variety of topics and themes.
The four key language learning skills we focus on are:
Listening
Speaking
Reading
Writing
The teaching of grammar will be covered in an age appropriate way across each unit of work.
Our intent is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages, finding them enjoyable and stimulating. Learning a second language will also offer our pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences. The intention is that they will be working towards becoming life-long language learners.
We also have an annual Spanish Day in school which the whole school enjoys.
